Please go to the INFO!!! link for details about our daily schedule and the cities/places we visit.

I still need to get a few pieces of information to completely finalize all of it.

  • I am working on separate pages of things to do in all of the places we visit, for those of you uncomfortable to be on your own, you can always hang with Karin and me.
  • This tour is planned as a overview to some of the cities and places. Karin and I took most of the day trips on our Christmas market trip in December 2017 and we both feel that the scheduled time in these places will be a good way to get the feel of them.
  • Some research on your part will/might be required to satisfy your interests.
  • Morning starting times could be changed when I get the bus work schedule with the legal times the driver is allowed to work.
  • More information will be posted.
  • I will post a page for each destination for you to make your own decisions while you are there. Karin and I will be available to answer questions.
  • The hotels we are looking into are basic middle class hotels, we require, that they have bathrooms in the room and that they are reviewed to be clean.
  • On the not included items I will try to find out which one’s you can charge to a credit card and which require cash.
  • Food:
    • We will check into how we could have Breakfast everyday, as there are no Breakfasts included in some of the hotel prices and they want about € 20 ($26) per person per day for theirs, we are looking for possible alternatives.
    • With the festival going on in Nuremberg we figured that you will eat walk around foods from the festival food vendors. Please be prepared that sit down restaurants are much slower than their equivalents here!
    • From feedback of those committed to come along, we will only included the 4 dinners we have to do as a group because of the bus schedule or uniqueness of the restaurant.

**   not included in the price
*** will be part of the personalized form to fill out.

** Beer and some other drinks can be purchased on the bus for a reasonable price, I will post what is available when I get the list. I try to have bottled water on the bus as they usually carry carbonated mineral water.

Fri PM fly from Detroit to Berlin
 Hotel Meals
Sat. Sep. 8: Berlin
Arriving in the morning we arrange for a transfer to the hotel.
The whole day is at your leisure to explore Berlin.
The hotel does not include breakfast.
.
Things to do in Berlin:**
City Circle Tour Yellow Line € 22 which includes 18 stops like Check Point Charlie, the Brandenburg Gate, Kurfürstendamm and Unter den Linden.
Found this article about getting around in Berlin without Uber.

More on this will be posted on separate pages for each location.

Berlin
Sun. Sep. 9: Dresden
As the hotel this morning in Berlin does not include breakfast, they are asking 19€ per person. I  am checking into having coffee and a breakfast sandwich on the bus.
The bus will pick us up at 9 AM and drive us to the hotel in Dresden. Besides just roaming through the city and seeing the sights, there are quite a few museums here with the Green Vault being the most famous (might have long lines to get in). We liked the Armory and the Albertinum too. A list of many things to see is on tripadvisor.com.
.
Things to do in Dresden: **
A Hop on Hop off “Big Sightseeing Tour” with 22 stops is available for € 20.
Please note that even the Frauenkirche (Church of our Lady) might charge admission.
Dresden
Mon. Sep 10: Seiffen, Prag
With a 8 AM departure from the hotel, we are on our way to the wood carving village of Seiffen. The “Made in the Erzgebirge” Christmas pyramids, smoky figurines and carved angels made this place famous. We will stop in at a demonstration workshop to see how some of it is done.
About 3 PM we will be on our way to the hotel in Prague.
The evening can be spent doing what Prague is known for – Bar Hopping, if you so desire.
Prague  B
Tue. Sep 11: Prag
We will have an English tour guide meet us at the hotel for a 2 hour walking tour to get the feel of this beautiful city, from the castle down into the city, from the newer “Old Town” across the Charles Bridge with the saint statues, including the famous John of Nepomuk, to the Old Town and from there to the Jan Hus statue on the marketplace.
As much of Prague is impossible to get through with a bus, we might (according to Renate) have to walk to the hotel with our luggage a block or two.
On tripadvisor.com is an extensive list of sights and things to do. It would be good for you to outline things there, that are within your interest. We will depart from Prague at 4.30 PM for dinner at the Chodovar Brewery Restaurant and after that a short drive to our hotel in Schoenwald, Bavaria.

Wed. Sep 12: Rothenburg ob der Tauber
Arriving before lunch you will have all day to explore the city. Crawl around the city fortifications which still surround this town and see the sights, some of which go back more than a millennium. If you did not spend all your money in Seiffen, you can spent it here at Kaethe Wohlfahrt (they can even ship it, for the cost of mailing, home for you).
We will stop for dinner on the way home.
There is a 90 minute English walking tour available from the Market square at 2 PM for € 8.00**

Thu. Sep 13: Moedlareuth, Bamberg, Forchheim
On our way to Bamberg we will make a short stop in Moedlareuth, which the GI’s called “Little Berlin” during the cold war.
The UNESCO town of Bamberg is well worth a visit.
Enjoy this historic city with the rose garden overlooking the town, sidewalk restaurants and if you try the local Rauchbier (smoked beer) it is said that you need at least 2 to appreciate the taste.
A late afternoon drive to Forchheim for a tour of the unique Kellerwald with a Brotzeit in one of the beer gardens on top of the Keller.
Turm B,D
Fri. Sep 14: Nuremberg
A whole day in Nuremberg. You can start at the Handwerkerhof and work your way into Old Town. Follow in the footsteps of some of the famous sons of the city, like Albrecht Duerer, the artist of the “Praying Hands”. The entrance fee to the Imperial Castle, which was for centuries the center of the Holy Roman Empire going back to the Franken King Karl der Grosse, also known as Charlemagne, is included in the Bavarian Castle Card.
There is an abundance of stores and vendor stands to browse through, admire or buy their wares.
An added bonus is that the Altstadtfest is in full swing on this day, so be prepared to have some festival fun!
Because the festival is on that day we should plan on eating from one of the many food vendor stands**, that we can spend more time enjoying this city.
I have a 1 mile self guided walking tour already ready for those of you who want it.
Karin and I took an informative Street Train Tour (in English) when we were there in December for € 9.00.
There are also tours on tripadvisor.
 Turm B
Sat. Sep 15: Regensburg
The drive there should take about 1½ hours.
We plan on leaving Regensburg at 4.30 PM to drive (about 2 hours) to the Hotel in Salzburg. You can include a 45 minute Danube Ship Cruise,** in the afternoon if you are interested.***
.
Things to do in Regensburg: **
A 45 minute Street Train tour leaves from the cathedral. Cost is 8€ (it includes a free coffee at one of the restaurants across from the cathedral)
The most famous restaurant here is the Historic Wurstkuchl right next to the Danube river (Menu posted at the Menu Card Link) even if you don’t eat there, it is still worth a walk by and look in.
You should have about 6 hours in Regensburg on your own.
Salzburg B
Sun. Sep 16: Herrenchiemsee
Our first stop will be a tour of the gardens in Schloss Hellbrunn, then on to Lake Chiemsee. In Prien we board the ship to the island of Herrenchiemsee, with Ludwig’s grand palace. Boat ride and entrance to the palace is included, if you do not want to take the 15 minute walk up, you can ride up on one of the horse drawn wagons**.
Salzburg
Mon. Sep 17: Berchtesgaden
Salt mine, Eagle’s Nest and Koenigsee are scheduled today.
The Eagle’s Nest is weather permitting so I will see if we have the possibility to switch Monday with Tuesday if I can, when we see the actual weather forecast (no promises). The Koenigsee is also more impressive on a clear day.
Salzburg
Tue. Sep 18: Salzburg
Today you can explore Mozart’s city of Salzburg at your leisure.
Salzburg D
Wed. Sep 19: Neuschwanstein, Schloss Linderhof, Garmisch Partenkirchen:
Our first stop will be the gardens of Schloss Linderhof.
Neuschwanstein is one of the major tourist locations, we need reservations to get in, there is a scheduling problem, as you have to be there at least 1½ before your scheduled time on the ticket, which would cut down the time we have to spend in Garmisch Partenkirchen to less than 3 hours. I still would like to take their bus up to the Mary’s Bridge to have view of the castle from above.

I have 6PM reservations in a restaurant nearby! This will be our what is called in German a “Henker’s Mahlzeit” – our last meal together as a group.

Munich
Thu. Sep 20:Munich
This city is considered the metropolis with a heart. There are many things to do here and I will have a whole list of possibilities for you on a separate page.

The bus will leave us today, but will make a round trip in the morning to the concentration camp in Dachau for those of you interested, before driving home.

We will try to schedule a “Auf Wiederseh’n” drink for this evening.

Munich

Fri. Sep 21: Munich
It is time to say “Auf Wiederseh’n”. For those of you who fly back or need to pick up a rental car at the airport today, we will have a transfer for you to the airport.

If you like to extend to go to the Oktoberfest let Renate know, but be aware that the prices for hotels close to triple during that time period!!
Sat. Sep 22: Today the Oktoberfest in Munich starts

We reserve the right to make changes without notice.
